Arts of Collin County Commission will present a project update at public meeting

A Public Meeting to present the final design of Phase 1 of the Arts of Collin County Commission arts park and hall is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers of the Frisco City Hall, 6101 Frisco Square Boulevard.

BOORA Architects and other members of the design team will present the final design and construction plans for the 2100-seat hall, Outdoor Performance Meadow and Stage, Sculpture Garden, Creek and Trail Improvements, Parking, and site improvements. The development of construction documents which will be used to bid the project are 50 percent complete.

This beautiful, arts-related park central to Collin County will be built in phases in coming years. Future phases may include an 800-seat theater, arts education space, visual arts gallery, amphitheater and potentially an arts magnet school.

The 124-acre site, generously donated by Briar Ridge Investments (estimated value of $22 million) is located in Allen, on the south side of State Highway 121, a half mile east of Custer Road. It is this intersection where the four major cities (Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano) all meet.

Allen, Frisco and Plano have each approved a bond program of $19 million. Collin County has awarded a $3 million grant through its Open Space Enhancement Program. The Arts of Collin County Foundation, a 501(c)(3) foundation, is conducting a private fundraising campaign to help raise the remaining funds necessary to complete Phase I of the project.

The Arts of Collin County (ACC) is an innovative, public-private collaboration charged with designing, building and operating a performing arts facility and arts park, where all citizens may enjoy the diversity and vitality of the arts. Co-owned by the cities of Allen, Frisco and Plano, and managed by a five-member commission, the development is supported with $57 million in bond monies and additional funds being raised from the private sector. Located in Allen near State Highway 121 and Custer Road, the arts park will be completed in phases, with a 2,100-seat arts hall, performance meadow, and hike and bike trails included in Phase One.
